Phyllis E. (Whittemore) (Lynch) Gillis, 81, of Brockton, died peacefully, surrounded by her family December 27, 2010 following a lengthy illness. She was the wife of the late John F. Lynch and John C. Gillis. Phyllis was raised in Avon, daughter of the late James and Mary (Kelliher) Whittemore. She was a 1948 graduate of Avon High School where she played Basketball. She had been employed by Brockton Hospital for many years, and was known by many as a caring person who would take family or friends into her home at their time of need. She enjoyed spending time at the Bertocci Club playing Bocci with friends, trips to Foxwoods and cruises and was a Celtics and Red Sox fan.
She is survived by two sons, John F. “Jack” Lynch, Jr. and his wife Ellen of Brockton and James C. Lynch and his wife Kelly of Wareham; three grandchildren Corinne Altham, Kathleen Lynch and John F. Lynch, III; three great grandchildren; a brother Robert Whittemore of Brockton; her cousin Mary McCullough of W. Bridgewater; several nieces and nephews and many friends.
Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street, (Rte 123) Brockton, Friday at 8am. Funeral Mass in Christ the King Parish (formerly St. Colman Church) 42 Wendell Ave. Brockton at 9am. Burial in St. Michael Cemetery, Avon. Visiting Hours Thursday 4-7pm. Donations in her name may be made to Old Colony Hospice, One Credit Union Way, Randolph, MA 02368, for online donations
