IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Rene
Eugene
July 7, 1952 – August 9, 2025
Rene Pierre Eugene, affectionately known as Toto, was born on July 7, 1952, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, to Ghislaine Victor and Christian Eugene. Toto was raised in a home filled with discipline, pride, and the deep-rooted values of his Haitian culture.
From an early age, Toto's heartbeat to the sound of music. His passion led him to join the Haitian band, Afro Combo, where he played the drums with soul and joy. Music was more than a hobby—it was a way he connected with others, bringing harmony and happiness wherever he went.
Toto had a rare and beautiful gift for making people feel at home. His warm smile, generous heart, and familiar chuckle could light up any room. Whether through his delicious cooking, his playful sense of humor, or simply his calming presence, Toto created spaces filled with love and laughter. His energy was magnetic, and people were naturally drawn to his kindness and warmth.
A man of great dedication, Toto spent over 20 years working at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston as an Environmental Services Technician, serving with pride, diligence, and compassion. He was also a entrepreneur and a respected businessman in his beloved Haiti, where he owned a convenience store, a bakery, and rental properties—each a reflection of his ambition, resilience, and deep commitment to his community.
Toto was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marie Carmel Eugene (Fifi); his parents, Ghislaine Victor and Christian Eugene; and his siblings Marie Maude Eugene, Carol Eugene, Denis "You-You" Eugene, and Jean Claude Eugene.
On August 9, 2025, Toto passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with illness. He leaves behind a legacy of love and strength, carried on by his devoted children: Regine Eugene, Sherline Eugene, and Rene Eugene Jr.; and his cherished granddaughters: Nejaii Tereze Eugene, Dalilah Ellie Holloway, and Riley Marie Eugene.
Toto also leaves behind siblings: Joseph Eugene, Marlene Eugene, Alexson "Sunsun" Eugene, Frantzie Eugene, Marie Jean-Baptiste, and Evans Jean-Baptiste; and many nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends.
Toto faced his final months with remarkable courage and grace. He showed us the meaning of strength and resilience; teaching us all about patience, perseverance, and what it means to truly cherish each other.
Though he is no longer with us, his spirit lives on in every smile, every laugh, and every memory shared by those who loved him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
Rest in paradise, Toto.
Your light continues to shine in all of us.
