Richard A. Bottary, Sr., 78, of Brockton, passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2020 at home after a short battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of Martha (Murphy) Bottary.
Born in Roxbury on January 4, 1942, Richard was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Pickett) Bottary.
Richard was a truck driver for the Casey Hayes Trucking Company in Boston for many years and was very active in the city of Brockton. He earned appreciation awards from the Christopher Columbus Lodge, No. 216 in 1984 and 1991-1992, the 2005 Brockton Champion of the City award, and an appreciation award from the BAARC in 2005 and a City of Brockton Official Citation in 2009 for his work with the John J. DiBari Memorial Basketball Tournament.
In addition to his wife Martha, Richard is survived by his children Catherine and John Pike of Brockton, Richard A. Jr. and Valeri Bottary of Brockton and Rachael and wife Dayle Wilkinson of Brockton; grandchildren Richard A. Burns and his companion Christa Romaine of Brockton, Elizabeth M. Pike of Brockton, Kayla M. Pike and her companion Justin Burgos of Maryland, Emilia A. Pike and her companion Christopher Hill, Jr. of East Bridgewater and Samantha N. Bottary and her companion Nathan Yassan of Brockton; great grandchildren Elysia A. Hill of East Bridgewater, Roman O. Hill of East Bridgewater and Pamela H. Yassan of Brockton; his sister Patricia E. Bottary of Brookline; his 5 nephews; 9 nieces; 7 grandnephews; 14 grandnieces; 10 great grandnephews; and 8 great grandnieces. He was also the brother of the late Joseph A. Bottary of Canton, Theresa M. Poirier of Palm Springs, CA., William R. Bottary of Mission Hill and Kenneth F. Bottary of Mission Hill.
Following cremation, a memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, June 27th from 2:00-4:00 PM in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St. (RT. 123), Brockton followed by a brief prayer service at 4:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Brockton Area Arc or Brockton Area Hospice.
