Richard F. Kelley, Jr.
, 66, of Wilmington, Delaware and formerly of Brockton, Massachusetts, died Wednesday, December 14, 2011 in Wilmington,Delaware after a lengthy illness.
Born April 6, 1945 in Brockton, he was the son of the late Richard F. Kelley, Sr. and Mildred Marie (Ackerman) Kelley. Richard attended St. Patrick's Elementary School and was a member of the first graduating class of Cardinal Spellman High School. An alumnus of Providence College, Richard acquired Diamond Ice and Cold Storage, a well-known Wilmington landmark, in 1979. A successful entrepreneur, he owned a number of business including Diamond Distribution Center, Diamond Marine Services, and Liberty Cold Storage.
Richard was a delegate to the White House Conference on Small Business in
1986 and served for many years on the Service Academy Selection Committee
for then Senator Biden. He also served as the Director of Marketing for the
Port of Wilmington and the Airports Division of the Delaware River and Bay
Authority.
Richard is survived by his son, Michael J. Kelley, Michael's wife Nell, and
their sons James Coleman and Joseph Mitchell of Unionville, PA; his son,
Terence S. Kelley, Terence's wife Jennifer and their children Meredith and
Nolan of Westborough, MA; his former wife, Mary Ann Kelley of Wilmington,
DE; his siblings, Phillip Kelley and his wife Fonda of Kingsport, TN,
Margaret Jean Kelley of Cambridge, MA, Paul H. Kelley and his wife Lynn of
Wilmington, DE and James S. Kelley of Weymouth, MA; and several nieces and
nephews. He was the father of the late Kevin Kelley and the brother of the late Daniel Kelley.
Funeral Information
Following cremation, a Memorial Gathering will be held in the Russell Pica
Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., Brockton on Tuesday from 4:00-6:00PM followed
by a prayer service at 6:00PM.
A Memorial Mass for Richard will be held Thursday, December 29th at 6pm at
Sacred Heart Oratory, 917 North Madison Street Wilmington, Delaware 19801.
