Richard E. McCarthy, 81, of West Bridgewater, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at the West Roxbury Veterans Medical Center. He was the devoted husband of Carol Ann (Elliot) McCarthy, with whom he shared a loving marriage.

Born in Quincy, Richard was the son of the late Charles and Evelyn (Locke) McCarthy. He grew up in Easton and went on to graduate from Stonehill College. Proud to serve his country, Richard was a veteran of the United States Army during the Vietnam era.

He enjoyed a long career with Verizon, working in the Rates & Regulations Department. Outside of work, Richard cherished time spent with family and friends. He loved going to the movies, dining out, traveling, and especially looked forward to family vacations.

Richard will be deeply missed by his wife, Carol Ann; his children, Heidi Louttit and her husband Steve, Holly Cambra, Patrick McCarthy, Heather Mendonca, Christine Holmes and her husband Donald, Robert Josselyn, and Hope McCarthy; his beloved grandchildren, Ken, Meagan, Brian, Emanuel, Amanda, Shannon, Kerryn, Devyn, Connor, Nicole, Lauren, Christian, and Jennaya; and his great-grandchildren, Cole and Autumn. He is also survived by his siblings, Marylou Boyd, Janice Coe, Gina McCarthy, and Paula Coe, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Kevin McCarthy, Paul McCarthy, James McCarthy and Charles McCarthy.

Family and friends are invited to visiting hours on Monday, August 25, from 4:00–7:00 PM at Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 441 South Main St. (Rt. 28), West Bridgewater. A funeral will be held on Tuesday, August 26, at 9:00 AM from the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at St. Ann Church, 103 North Main St., West Bridgewater. Interment will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery, West Bridgewater.
