Funeral from the J. Frank Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Saturday at 9am. Funeral Mass in Holy Cross Church, South Easton, at 10am. Burial in South Easton Cemetery. Visiting Hours Friday 2-4 and 7-9pm.
Obituary Information
Richard died Tuesday at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born in Brockton, the son of Rae (DiLillo) and the late Walter J. Powers. He attended St. Edward School, Cardinal Spellman High School, class of 1964, and received his Accounting Degree from Stonehill College. For the past 16 years he had been employed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a Forensic Auditor and for the past 33 years he had been a Sports Correspondent for the Brockton Enterprise. In November 2002, Richard was inducted into the Cardinal Spellman High School Sports Hall of Fame for his achievements as a member of his high school football team. He had been a resident of South Easton for the past 24 years, and was a communicant of Holy Cross Church.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Carol A. (Powderly) Powers, one daughter Colleen E. DeSimone and her husband Gregory of Mansfield, one son Ryan T. Powers and his wife Keri of South Easton and a grand daughter Cecelia Jane DeSimone and his mother Rae (DiLillo) Powers of Palm Desert, CA.
