Richard W. Stetson, 82, passed away Saturday, January 3rd, 2015 at the Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital after a brief illness. His daughter held his hand and kissed his forehead as he took his last breaths. He was the devoted husband of Elizabeth F. (Springhetti) Stetson for 57 years. He was a loving and thoughtful father to his daughter, Donna M. Stetson, and her husband Martin Checkoway of Mansfield. He adored his grandson, Daniel Checkoway.
Born in Avon on November 23, 1932, he was the son of the late Frank Stetson, Sr. and Kathleen (Robinson) Stetson. He was the brother of the late Frank Stetson, Jr. and Charles Stetson. A graduate of Avon High School, Richard served in the Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a truck driver and retired from Andys Express in Quincy after many years of service.
He loved to travel. Family trips were taken to many European countries, the beaches of Normandy, and many U.S. locations. He had a dry sense of humor and was quick to smile. The thing he loved to do most in this world was spend time with his grandson, Daniel, watching him at karate, soccer and hockey. He was devoted to his family.
In addition to his immediate family, he is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.
Funeral Information
A Funeral Service will be held in the funeral home on Thursday, January 8th at 11:00AM. Interment will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery, Avon. Calling hours Wednesday 5:00PM-8:00PM.
