Robert Bendell, 89, died March 23, 2022, at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton, MA. He was the loving husband of Helen (Worcester) Bendell. He was born on March 13, 1933, in Brockton, the son of the late Mercy (Cahoon) (Bendell) Bates and Herbert Bendell. He grew up in Brockton and graduated from Brockton High School.
He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1957. During his time in the Army, Robert was stationed in several locations within the United States. He was also on a special assignment studying the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) at Fort Churchill, Canada. He received the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. While still serving in the Army, Robert married his wife of 68 years, Helen. After the Army, they lived in Millis, MA, and eventually settled in Brockton. He worked as an office machine repairman at Natick Laboratories in Natick, MA. He retired in 1988, after working for 34 years.
He enjoyed spending time with his wife and children. He loved working with children whether it be camping, fishing, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, little league baseball, church groups, he was always there to lend a hand or lead a group. He also was an avid woodworker, making wooden trains, bookshelves, or cabinets and anything in between. If you needed a laugh for the day, you would visit or call Robert, never fails he would have a joke and a smile for you. He always lived his life for God.
In addition to his wife, he leaves his daughter, Joyce (Edward Christensen) Bendell of Delta Junction, Alaska; sons Robert (Muoi) Bendell of Rockland; Stephen Bendell of Louisiana; Peter (Pam) Bendell of Brockton, granddaughters Taylor Bendell; Lan (Max) Woodward; Anita Schloss, great-grandsons Bo Dodge; Brandon Gillis; and Phillip Baptistia, great-granddaughter Allie Evans, and sister Mildred (Bendell) Blackmar, as well as many relatives and friends.
A memorial gathering will be on Saturday, April 2, at Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 441 South Main St., West Bridgewater, MA, at 10:00 am to 12:00pm. Interment will be private.
