Bevis
September 3, 1940 – February 21, 2025
Robert Dennis Bevis, 84, of West Bridgewater passed away peacefully on Friday, February 21, 2025 at Brockton Hospital.
Bob was born in Brockton on September 3, 1940. He was the son of the late Harold Bevis and Josephine (Karasiewicz) Bevis and was a graduate of Bridgewater High School. Bob enlisted in the US Navy in 1961. He was stationed at the US naval base in Key West, FL and married Dorna Edson on June 16, 1962. In October of 1962 he was aboard the USS Peterson during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Bob was discharged from the Navy in 1963 and moved back to Massachusetts to raise a family.
Bob worked as a health insurance underwriter and retired from Blue Cross Blue Shield after 30 years. A West Bridgewater resident for over 30 years, he was active in several community groups including the Conservation and Historical Commissions of West Bridgewater and the Old Bridgewater Historical Society. His pride and joy was the opening of the historic museum in West Bridgewater.
In addition to enjoying travelling across the country with his family, travelling to historic sites, and to Navy reunions, he enjoyed spending time on Cape Cod.
Bob was a loving husband for 62 years to the late Dorna (Edson) Bevis of West Bridgewater. Bob is survived by his children Joan M. (Bevis) Schmeichel and her husband Eric of Sheridan, WY and Tracy L. (Bevis) Ledin and her husband Matthew of Rehoboth, MA; his grandchildren Paul M. Bevis, Jr., Amanda L. (Bevis) Hathaway and her husband Shawn, Ashley M. (Bileau) Hooser and her husband John, Christina R. Bileau, Elizabeth L. Schmeichel, Andrew K. Schmeichel, and Gavin W. Ledin; and his brothers Curt Bevis and his wife Fran of Stoughton and Charlie Bevis and his wife Kathy of Chelmsford. Bob was predeceased by his son, the late Paul M. Bevis.
Calling hours in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 441 South Main St., (Rt28) West Bridgewater will be held on Sunday, March 2nd from 1:00-2:30 PM. From 2:30-3:00 PM, there will be a song, prayer, and Navy Honor Guard presentation.
