Robert S. Coffin, 59, of Brockton, passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at the Kent Hospital in Warwick, Rhode Island.
Born October 12, 1956, in Randolph, MA he was a son of the late Robert W. Coffin and Lorraine M. (Sullivan) Coffin. Robert was a graduate of North Fort Myers High School and Lehigh Vocational School, Florida. He served as a former Brockton City Councilor for Ward 7 and for the Brockton School Committee. He loved the City of Brockton and wanted to be part of its history by helping it stay alive. He was an electrician and machine repair technician. He worked for FedEx (Cushman & Wakefield) since 1997 and preferred to get his hands dirty and tinker on things to figure out how they worked. This was especially true with computers and technology. He loved to take his computer apart and then improve it himself because you 'couldn't buy a decent computer these days'. He was a lover of sports, music, sci-fi movies, history and politics. He was devoted to his children and family. He encouraged their passions and dreams and was so proud to see them achieve their goals. He loved listening to his daughter Hayley playing her saxophone and showing Morgan how to fix things, he finally had someone who could outsmart his talent in technology. He was so proud of his oldest daughters and boasted of their successes and the families they were building. He loved being a grandfather and loved joking around with them. He was the happiest when roaming a new town or city learning the history behind the streets and buildings. He adored Nantucket Island and felt connected to his family history there. He will be greatly missed by his four daughters.
He is survived by his former spouses, Debra Garland and Lisa (Grant) Coffin; his children, April Dowling and her husband Timothy, Marybeth Kerr and her husband Robert, Hayley Coffin, Morgan Coffin and his step-son Spencer Petitti and his wife Becca; his grandchildren, Emma Kerr, Julia Kerr, Griffin Kerr and Sean Dowling; his sisters, Kathleen Samson and her husband Richard and nephews Larry Campanelli, Jonathan Samson of Fort Myers, Florida; Elizabeth Coffin Rupp and his nephews, Michael Rupp and Brian Rupp of Davie, Florida.
