Obituary

Dr. Robert "Bob" G. Goulet died unexpectedly in his home on December 29, 2018 in Brockton at the age of 78. Bob was born on December 16, 1940 in Woonsocket, RI, the son of the late Hector and Yvonne Goulet. He graduated from Rhode Island College in 1963 with degrees in English and French, and then received his doctorate in English Literature from Brown University in 1969. Bob began his teaching career at Stonehill College in 1968 and continued there as a professor of English and Film Studies for 44 years. After his retirement, Bob continued to share his enthusiasm with students through the Boston Seminar Series, and even taught a course this past fall. Bob's passion for literature and film was felt by all his students and friends. He was always a willing editor of friends' literary works, and never shied away from a good debate. Bob initiated a faculty theater at Stonehill College where he produced and directed The Tempest, Waiting for Godot, and Luther and The Caretaker. In 2002, Bob received the Louise F. Hegarty Excellence in Teaching Award at Stonehill College. Bob is survived by his siblings, Raymond Goulet and wife Jeannette of Riverside, RI, Rita Gervais of Cumberland, RI; and his nieces, Janet Ferrari of Mansfield, Erin Stephens of Charlestown, RI, Sarah Gervais of Woonsocket, RI, and Mary Osso of North Kingstown, RI. He is preceded in death by his parents, Hector and Yvonne Goulet of Manville, RI. Bob will be remembered as a remarkable educator, colleague, and friend, with a brilliant mind and quick wit. A celebration of Bob's life is scheduled for Wednesday, March 13th at 4:15pm in the McCarthy Auditorium located in the Welcome and Academic Center at Stonehill College, with a reception to follow.
