Online Obituaries Robert Andrew Kennedy III, 71, of Brockton died peacefully on Friday, October 21, 2016 in the presence of his family after a courageous battle with cancer. Robert, known as Bob or Andy to his family and friends, was born in Brockton, March 11, 1945. He was the son of the late Robert A. Kennedy Jr. and Mary L.(Cruise) Kennedy. Bob was a graduate of Cardinal Spellman High School, class of 1963. He earned several degrees in the fields of engineering and mathematics, including Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from New York University, Master of Science in Mathematics from Northeastern University, and Doctor of Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University. During a long career in engineering Bob worked at Raytheon, Draper Laboratory, and Lincoln Laboratory. His love of teaching led him to teach night classes at Massasoit Community College for many years while continuing in his engineering career. Ultimately, Bob pursued his love for teaching full time, first at Massachusetts Maritime Academy and then at Massasoit Community College for the past 15 years. Bob lived in Brockton all his life and enjoyed many summers in Chatham creating treasured memories with his children when they were young, and in recent years, pursuing his joy of biking and hiking. Bobs many interests evolved through time starting with golf early in his adult life, moving to countless hours in and driving to hockey rinks with his sons, and shifting to a love of the outdoors later in life. Through it all he found joy, strength, and inspiration in his immediate and extended family. He will be remembered by many for his unique character, wit and wisdom, small acts of kindness, and above all his devotion to his children and grandchildren. Bob was married to Linda M. (Simmons) Kennedy and is survived by their 3 sons, Andrew (AJ) and his partner Ana of Plymouth, David and his wife Christina of Raynham, and Ben and his wife Mary Kate of Braintree, and 7 grandchildren, Ana Sophia, Ian, William, Evelyn, Brynn, Jane, and Hannah. His grandchildren lovingly refer to him as Grandy. Bob benefited from the love of his devoted siblings Ann (Kennedy) Thibault and her husband Thomas of Indianapolis, Mary Kennedy Bardsley and her husband R. Michael of Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada, and the late Senator Thomas Kennedy and his wife Clare of Brockton, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends, especially his dear friend Rachel Thibeault. Funeral Information Funeral from the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt123) Brockton on Friday, October 28th at 9:30AM thence to Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 439 West St., Brockton where a funeral mass will be celebrated for the repose of his soul at 10:30AM. Interment will follow in the St. Francis Cemetery in Taunton. Calling hours in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., Brockton on Thursday from 4:00PM 8:00PM.
