Robert A. Lindberg, "Bob", of West Bridgewater passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, August 29 at his summer home in Dennis Port at the age of 87. He was the son of Gunnar A. and Clara (McLauthlen) Lindberg and the beloved husband for 49 years of Elizabeth " Bette" (Welch) Lindberg.
Bob was a graduate of the Brockton High School class of 1951 and was a long time resident of West Bridgewater. He attended Bentley School of Accounting & Finance and after his honorable discharge from the U.S. Army he continued his studies at Suffolk College. His Army tour of duty in Germany ignited a life-long love of travel that led him to adventures all across the United States and Europe but Germany remained his all-time favorite destination.
When his health no longer allowed him to travel as he once had, he settled for regular trips across the Sagamore Bridge to Dennis Port and enjoyed every day of his time on the Cape. He often told stories about being at his uncle's Dennis Port beach tent and celebrating the end of World War II. Another of his favorite stories to tell was of his solo train trip to Philadelphia at the age of 18 to see Brockton's Rocky Marciano knock out Jersey Joe Walcott.
Bob was a keen student of American history, especially WW II history and had an endless supply of stories and anecdotes about historical persons and events Bob was also his unofficial family historian and memory keeper whose goal was to ensure an appreciation of both his family's Swedish and Anglo-American heritage was passed to the next generation.
In addition to his wife, Bob leaves his sister, Barbara Paras Zoino (Richard) of Harwich, his nephews John Paras (John Dupuis) and Jeffrey Paras (Betsy), and his niece Stephanie (Paras) Lodi (Anthony) and their families as well as several cousins.
Flowers or donations in Bob's name to the St. Vincent DePaul Society or other charity are welcome.
