Online Obituaries Robert D. Smith, 77, of Bridgewater and formerly of Brockton, passed away Saturday evening, March 16, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Ann L. (DiNunno) Smith for 57 years. Born August 16, 1935 in Brockton, he was the son of the late Howard Smith and Gertrude (Dean) Smith. Raised in Brockton he graduated from Brockton High School and served in the United States Army. Bob started his plumbing career with the DiNunno Family Plumbing Business. He then worked for the City of Brockton as Clerk of the Works, Superintendent of Sewer Department, Superintendent of Water Department and retired in 2004 as Commissioner of the Department of Public Works. Bob enjoyed all sports especially baseball, where he was a Season Ticket holder for the Brockton Rox. He also enjoyed maintaining his property, walking and especially spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In earlier years he was a communicant of St. Margaret's Church in Brockton where he was Principal of the CCD program and most recently has been a communicant of St. Ann Church in West Bridgewater. He is survived by his loving wife, Ann L. (DiNunno) Smith of Bridgewater; his 7 children, Dean F. Smith and his wife Anne of Brockton, Peter M. Smith of Brockton, Robert J. Smith (Brockton Police Dept.) and his wife Cheryl of Brockton, Kevin A. Smith (Brockton School Police) and his wife Paula of West Bridgewater, Deanna M. Smith of Brockton, James E. Smith (Hanover Police Dept.) and his wife Lisa of Hanover and Patty A. Smith of Brockton; his 12 grandchildren, Christopher, Daniel, Nickolas, Mathew, Andrew, Robert Jr., Jon, Kristen, Courtney, Nicole, Jamie and Megan; his 8 great-grandchildren, Rylee, Jacob, Zachary, Kennedy, Lilly, Robert III., Sandra and Emma; his brother, Richard H. Smith and his wife Anne of Brockton; he is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Howard F. Smith, Anna May Brides, Barbara Anderson, Donald M. Smith, David B. Smith and Beverly A. Decocq. Funeral Information Funeral from the Russell Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt123) Brockton on Thursday, March 21st at 9:30AM thence to Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 439 West St., Brockton where a funeral mass will be celebrated for the repose of his soul at 10:30AM.
