Online Obituaries Robert Bob G. Sylvia, 66, of Brockton, passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. He was the husband of Deborah A. (Hammond) Sylvia. Born October 18, 1948 in New Bedford, he was the son of the late George A. Sylvia and Alma M. (Desmarais) Sylvia. Bob served in the Navy during Vietnam and as a Naval reservist. He was employed with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Plasma Science and Fusion Center since May 1991 as a machinist. Bob enjoyed his family, especially his three granddaughters Caroline, Ella and Abigail. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, motorcycling and camping. Bob belonged to the Hanson Rod & Gun Club and was a lifetime member of the Gold Wing Touring Association as well as the enlisted Naval Reservist Association. Bob took pleasure in planning an annual fundraising event for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundations Ride for Kids event. In addition to his wife, Deborah A. (Hammond) Sylvia of Brockton, he is survived by his children, Jason A. Sylvia and his wife Nicole of Brockton, Shaun M. Hammond of New York, Leanne M. Sylvia and her husband Wilson of Georgia and Lynda J. Curtis and her husband Tim of Berkeley; three granddaughters, Caroline and Abigail Curtis and Ella Sylvia; a sister, Marcia Morin of Swansea and nieces and nephews. Funeral Information Following Cremation, a Memorial Gathering will be held in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt123) Brockton on Sunday, January 4th from 1:00-4:00PM. A Memorial Service will be held in the Funeral Home on Monday at 10:30AM followed by interment in the VA National Cemetery, Bourne at 12:45PM.
