Roger P. Wedge, 83, of Canton, died Thursday, September 29, 2022 at the Brockton Veterans Medical Center. He was the husband of Justine M. (Egan) Wedge.
Born March 28, 1939 in Brockton, he was the son of the late Aaron and Irene (Belanger) Wedge. Raised in Brockton, he graduated from Brockton High School, served honorably in the United States Marine Corps and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from Bentley University.
Roger was a Certified Public Accountant and owned several New England movie theaters, including the Brockton East Cinema and the Salem (N.H.) Tri Cinema. Before becoming an accountant, he worked at the Walter Baker Chocolate Factory while taking classes at night.
He was a member of the National Association of Theater Owners for many years and was widely known in Brockton for his bright orange 1956 Chevrolet Nomad that was in the film "The Hollywood Knights," which he won at a NATO convention in Las Vegas.
He was a longtime member of Thorny Lea Golf Course in Brockton and the Turf Club at Suffolk Downs in Boston. He loved skiing at Bolton Valley in Vermont and vacationing on Cape Cod and in Maine with Justine and her family. He was a lifetime New England Patriots season ticket holder, loved Boston College sports and enjoyed spending time with friends and family at LaScala in Randolph and the Hillside Pub in Canton.
Roger is survived by his wife, Justine M. (Egan) Wedge and his children, Allyson (Wedge) DeMaggio of Taunton, Dave Wedge and his wife Jessica Heslam of Milton, and Nancy Wedge of Taunton. He was the cherished grandfather of Kelsey (Wedge) Picchi and her husband Jared; Drew and Michael DeMaggio; and Danielle, Jackson and the late Grace Wedge; and the great-grandfather of Molly Picchi. He was the beloved brother of Robert Wedge and his wife Sue, and the late Edmund Wedge, Norman Wedge, and Lorraine Babb. He was also the dear brother-in-law of the Egan family and beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt123) Brockton on Thursday at 9:00 a.m., followed by a mass at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 439 West St., Brockton. Interment will follow in the VA National Cemetery, Bourne at 12:30 p.m. Calling hours in the funeral home on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Roger's name may be made to St. Jude Hospital or the Brockton VA Medical Center.
