Rosa Belle (Kennedy) Combs, 80. of Brockton, passed away Friday, August 20, 2021. She was the wife of the late Raymond Combs.
Rosa was born October 27, 1940, to Roosevelt and Thelma (Williams) Kennedy in Columbia, South Carolina. She was a longtime resident of Brockton where she lived with her husband, the late Raymond Combs, and her family. For 25 years she worked in Cambridge at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) before retiring in 1996. She had many friends that she shared the BAT bus commute with from Brockton to Boston.
Rosa was very family-oriented. She was known by many names and titles, including Ma, Nana, Nana Rose, Auntie Rose, Mrs. Combs and Mrs. Rose. As a family they spent a great deal of time with backyard gatherings, laughter and family-focused. Rosa was a dedicated member of the Messiah Baptist Church where she served for over 30 years. She was a member of the Voices of Inspiration Choir for more than 20 years; a member of the Missionary Society, and a longtime member of the Molding Beautiful Caring Women's Fellowship.
After a lengthy illness and several hospitalizations, Rosa was called home to eternal rest and healing on August 20, 2021. Rosa leaves to cherish her memory: her children: Derrick Combs (Cheryl), and Chant'e Combs of Massachusetts; her brothers: Ernest Kennedy (Essie) and Larry Kennedy of Massachusetts; James Kennedy of Atlanta, Georgia; and Calvin Kennedy of South Carolina; sister-in-law: Carolyn Kennedy of South Carolina; grandchildren: Anthony (Amber), Devon, Barry, Brandon, Brandi, Jamilia, Jammie (Felton), Jamal, Travis and 14 great-grandchildren; along with a host of extended grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Rosa is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Raymond; her daughter, Cassandra (Combs) Markland; her sisters: Elsie( Biddy) Jacobs, Josephine Coleman, and Bernice Bradshaw; and her brother, Isaac Kennedy.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, August 28th from 12:00-1:00 PM in Messiah Baptist Church, 80 Legion Parkway, Brockton followed by a funeral service from 1:00-2:00 PM.
