Obituary

Roy G. “Buzzy” Smith, Jr. age 72 of Wareham formerly of Raynham, died Monday December 29, 2014 at the Forestview Nursing Home in Wareham after a lengthy illness. He was born and raised in Brockton a son of the late Roy G. and Nicolena (Ruccolo) Smith. A graduate of Brockton High and Stonehill College, Roy had been an English professor at the Hotchkiss Preparatory School in Lakeville, Conn. He retired in 1995 after 30 years with the school where he was also a coach and trainer. In his retirement, Roy lived in Raynham for many years before moving to Wareham three years ago.
Roy loved watching classic movies, Broadway shows and traveling. He also enjoyed coin and stamp collecting. He had been a tutor to disadvantaged children. Roy will be remembered as a kind and gentle man who was generous to a fault.
Roy was the brother of Carole A. Smith and the late James M. Smith. He also leaves several cousins and many friends.
Visitation will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont Street (rte. 123) Brockton on Saturday 8:30-10 am with a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 10:30 am. Burial will be at a later date in Calvary Cemetery, Brockton.
