Obituary

Roy H. Piver, Sr., age 92, of West Bridgewater, died May 3, 2012 at Signature Healthcare/Brockton Hospital following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband for 64 years of the late Mary R. (LaFratta) Piver. A lifelong resident of West Bridgewater, he was a son of the late Manuel and Lucy Piver. Prior to his enlistment in the Army during WWII, Roy had worked on building a Naval Base in Bermuda. He returned home to join the Army and was stationed in Europe with the Army Corps of Engineers rebuilding runways that were being destroyed during the war. Roy had been a self employed carpenter and cabinetmaker and had also worked for the Gerald J. Kelleher Construction Company.

He was an avid golfer who had been a member of the Brockton Country Club and Pine Valley Country Club and was also a member of the Massachusetts Archaeological Society.

Roy is survived by his children Roy Piver, Jr. and his wife Jane of E. Bridgewater; Jeannie Piver of W. Bridgewater; Lorraine Bromley and her husband Edward of Bridgewater; Susan Dalton and her husband Martin of Easton and Jeffrey Piver and his wife Jane of W. Bridgewater. He leaves five grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Foster, Joseph, George and James Piver and Nellie Correia.

Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont St. (Rte 123) Brockton Sunday 4-7 pm. His funeral service will be in the funeral home Monday at 10 am followed by burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, W. Bridgewater. For all their assistance over the years, the family has asked that donations in Roy’s name be made to the West Bridgewater Fire Department, 99 West Center Street, West Bridgewater, MA 02379.
