Rufino Pomar, 93, of Brockton passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of 60 years of the late Fabiola J. (Holsen) Pomar. Born June 12, 1928 in Lima, Peru he was the son of the late Leonardo and Zoila (Gurrero) Pomar. He is survived by his five sons, David R. and his partner Marylou Drosdick, Miguel A. and his wife, Deborah Pomar, Jose L. and his wife, Ann Marie Pomar, Ruben D. Pomar and his partner, Cher Gabrielle and Julio C. and his wife, Theresa Pomar. Rufino came to the United States in 1968. Then was united with his family in 1969. He and his wife Fabiola settled and raised their five boys in Brockton, MA. Rufino was a wonderful father and husband; and was a hard working provider for his family. He was a long time manager for Kentucky Fried Chicken and worked in various stores throughout the greater Brockton area. Rufino went back to school and learned English. He took a job working for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the Welfare Department where he held various positions in the Brockton office. He retired from there after more than 20 years of service. Rufino was very active in the Latino community in his younger years. He was one of the founding members of the St. Martin de Porres Association in Brockton. This was a non-profit group that helped the Latino community, especially newly arrived families find jobs, homes, education, and become stabilized in the Greater Brockton area. He was also a communicant of St. Patrick's Church in Brockton. Being the oldest of his siblings, he became the patriarch of the family and the father figure many of his nieces and nephews. Besides his children he leaves 12 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed. Funeral from the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St.(Rt.123) Brockton on Monday, March 14th at 9:00AM followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00AM in St. Patrick Church, 335 Main St., Brockton. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Brockton. Calling hours Sunday from 3:00PM to 7:00PM.
