Ruth A. (Messier) Perry age 98 of West Bridgewater, died Sunday May 31, 2015 at Life Care of West Bridgewater. She was the devoted wife of the late George L. Perry, Sr. Ruth was born and raised in Brockton a daughter of the late Francis and Kathryn (Ryan) Messier and moved to West Bridgewater in 1937 after her marriage.
A 1936 graduate of Brockton High School Ruth did an interview with Amelia Earhart as a school project. She had spent her retail career in family shoe sales and had worked at Frasiers and Edgars Department Stores in downtown Brockton. In her retirement she had a part time job at K-Mart.
In her free time Ruth enjoyed shopping and lunch with her friends, knitting and crossword puzzles. She was also an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. Most importantly, Ruth was devoted to her family and adored her grandchildren.
Ruth was the mother of Sherry Harris and her husband Richard of West Bridgewater and the late George L. Perry, Jr., Theodore W. Perry and Sandra M. Jenness. She leaves several grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews, and was the sister of the late Francis G. Messier and Kathryn M. Messier. Ruth leaves a daughter-in-law Jane Perry and a son-in-law Don Jenness both of West Bridgewater and her dear friends Ruth Copeland of Bridgewater and Mary Stulpin of W. Bridgewater.
Visitation will be held Thursday 10:30am -12:30 pm in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont Street (rte. 123) Brockton followed by a funeral service at 12:30. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, W. Bridgewater. Donations in Ruth’s name may be made to the Paralyzed Veterans of America, 801 18th Street – NW Washington, DC 20006.
