Shellyann Charmaine Debnam of Brockton, Massachusetts passed away on January 27, 2024 surrounded by her loved ones.
Shelly was born on August 22, 1967 in St. Michael, Barbados to Victor Gibbons and Maureen Reid. She immigrated to the United States at the age of 3 and spent most of her childhood under the care of her adoptive parents Yvett and Elijah Debnam.
Shelly graduated from Brockton High School with the class of 1986. She continued her education at the Art Institute of Ft. Lauderdale where she received a degree in fashion design in 1991. Shelly was a creative being, who was talented at designing clothes and illustrating hand drawn portraits.
In the early 2000's, Shelly retired from working at Harvard Pilgrim Health Care soon after she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. She lived with MS for nearly 25 years. Even when she fell ill, Shelly never hesitated to help others in any way that she could. Her nurses and doctors often described her as being strong and never complaining about anything. She found solace in spending time with her aunt and caregiver Judy Collymore.
She often told stories about the good times that she shared growing up with her cousins Brian Collymore, Allison Gibbons, Damian Gibbons, and Jason Collymore. Amongst many things, she will be missed for her famous oreo cookie cake. She'll always be remembered for her selflessness and gentle soul.
Shelly is survived by her daughter Shakena Baker; grand-children Jesyka and Jordan Baker; grandmother Velda Gibbons; father Victor Gibbons (wife Angela); adoptive parents Yvett and Elijah Debnam; 5 sisters (Nicole, Alicia, Samantha, Kathy, Kawania); 3 brothers (Victor Jr., Tony, Shawn); and a number of other relatives and friends whom she loved dearly.
Shelly was welcomed to Heaven's gates by her mother Maureen Reid; great-grandmother Miriam Collymore; and great-grandfather James Collymore.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, February 17th from 1:00 pm-2:30 pm followed by a funeral service. All services will be held at Russell & Pica Funeral Home located at 165 Belmont Street, Brockton, MA 02301.
