Obituary

Sotirios "Steve" C. Badavas, 81, of Brockton died on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, after a brief illness, with both his children by his side.

Steve was born in 1942 in the village of Thoknia, county of Megalopolis, state of Arcadia, Greece. He was the son of the late Christos and Vasiliki (Pechilis) Badavas and of his beloved stepmother Maria (Giorgada) Badavas.

Steve graduated from The High School of Megalopolis in 1958, served in the Coast Guard for his country for 28 months before immigrating to the United States in 1968. Steve was proud to become an American citizen in 1975 and was forever grateful to his beloved aunt and uncle who brought him to Brockton.

Steve went right to work spending years in various jobs that included: working in the shoe factories, masonry work and grounds crew member, before he found the career, he was most suited for. Steve made a career as the Beverage Manager at Christos Restaurant for forty years. A title he wore proudly until the restaurant closed in 2013.

After being Christos' right-hand man for years, Steve became his son's right-hand man as the two opened Niko Bar & Grill together in 2015. There Steve joked he was the head busboy, but everyone knew how important he was to the daily operation. He worked there until May 2023 when he fell ill.

Steve was a member of the Pan- Macedonian Club where he could be found playing cards (especially knock rummy with his foursome), was an avid soccer fan and enjoyed watching (but not playing) golf. He could be found courtside at his son's basketball games, in the audience at his daughter's concerts and on any playing surface his beloved grandchildren were participating.

Steve is survived by his loving daughter Vicky Dutkiewicz and her husband Scott of Canton; and his son Peter Badavas and his wife Keri of East Bridgewater. He was the loving Pappou of Sydney and Matthew; and Nicholas and Evangeline.

He is survived by his brothers, Bill Badavas, of Brockton; John Badavas and his wife Karen, of Raynham; his sister Vicky Livas, of Athens, Greece; his sister-in-law's, Judith Badavas, of Southborough; Toula Badavas, of Athens, Greece; former spouse Maria Tigou Bock of Canton; and many beloved nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Pre-deceased by brothers Paul Badavas and Dimitrios Badavas.
