Online Obituaries Steven E. Cruz, Sr., 82, of Brockton, passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton. He was the husband of Judith (Mandeville) Cruz. Born August 13, 1929 in Danbury, Connecticut, he was the son of the late Eduardo Cruz and Rosa (de Almeida)(Cruz) Lane. He lived in Brockton for 82 years. He was a Brockton High School graduate of the class of 1947. Attended Berkley School of Music majoring in trumpet under the renowned John Coffee. He also attended Stonehill College Evening Classes. As the Director of the Brockton Redevelopment Authority he was a member of the National Community Development Association, Community Director of Block Grant Funds and the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials. He was also a Board member of the Fuller Arts and Sciences Inc., Westfield Child Center, Massasoit Community College, Stonehill Executive Committee for Development and Stonehill Century Club. Steve enjoyed playing golf at Thorny Lea Golf Club where he had "four hole-in-ones". He also enjoyed yard work, feeding the animals and telling stories to all who would listen. He is survived by his wife, Judith (Mandeville) Cruz of Brockton; Father of Carolyn (Cruz) Yurkins and her husband Walter Yurkins, Jr. of Brockton; his twins, Susan Cruz of Brockton and Steven E. Cruz, Jr. of Florida; he will be remembered by his nieces and nephews,Deborah and Kevin Walker and the late Robert F. Scott, Jr., William and Arlene Cummings, Cathy and Barry Denly, Joseph Bousquet, Denise and Harry Denley; he is also survived by several grand nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Helen E. (Cruz) Scott, Estrella (Cruz) Cummings, Esmerelda (Cruz) Bousquet and Margaret E. Lane. Funeral Information Funeral from the Russell Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt123) Brockton on Monday, July 30th at 8:00AM thence to Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 439 West St., Brockton where a funeral mass will be celebrated for the repose of his soul at 9:00AM.
