Obituary

(Theresa) Frances (Neubauer) Murphy, 83, of Easton, passed away on Thursday, November 23rd, 2023, after a months-long battle with lung cancer. She was the daughter of the late George and Mary (Devine) Neubauer.

Frances was born and raised in the Bronx, New York. A 1958 graduate of St. Helena's High School. She graduated from New York City University, Hunter College in 1963 with a Bachelor's degree in Economics. She went on to graduate studies at Fordham University in New York City and went back to school later to earn a Master's in Library Science from Bridgewater State University in Bridgewater, Massachusetts in 1993.

Frances worked as a teacher and real estate broker at her family's office in New York until moving to Brockton in 1975 to marry the love of her life, Bob Murphy. After moving to Easton in 1978, she went back to school and changed careers to become a school librarian. In many ways she merged her two passions: selling and reading. She was amazing at engaging kids with all the library had to offer. Her favorite job was being a librarian at Brockton High School, where she also served as Chess Club advisor.

Frances was a voracious reader. She read novels in hours and hardly ever read a book twice. An avid gardener, she and her husband enjoyed tending all sorts of flowers and vegetables in their gardens. A generous and caring soul, Fran always asked what she could do to help. She volunteered at her church and retirement community in Florida. She loved getting to know people and could chat up anyone from old friends to strangers in the grocery store. A staunch advocate of education and self-improvement, she was always striving to do better, be better and help those around her be the best they could be.

She loved flowers, the beach, music, and cooking. She loved gathering with friends and family and most of all, she cherished the time she spent with her granddaughter, Nora. She will leave behind a legacy of love and service to her loved ones, and her loss will be profound.

Frances is predeceased by her son, Daniel. She is survived by her husband Robert (Bob) Murphy, of Easton; her sister, Elizabeth O'Leary of Rye, NY; her daughter Susan (Murphy) Gilmore and her husband Adam, of Lowell; and her cherished granddaughter Nora as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members and close friends, who she considered part of her family.
