Theophilos "Red" Christopoulos
, 89, of Brockton, died Sunday, February 1, 2009 at the Southeast Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center in Easton. He was the husband of the late Joanna (Mihos) Christopoulos.
Born April 14, 1919 in Ipswich, he was the son of the late Thomas Christopoulos and Angela (Gomatas) Christopoulos. Raised in Ipswich he attended Ipswich Schools before entering the United States Army. He served in the United States Army with the 116th Infantry Regiment of the 29th Division and was the first assault wave to hit Omaha Beach at Normandy, D-Day, June 6, 1944.
Red worked for Charlestown Navy Yard and then Strathmore Shoe Company in Brockton for several years and was also a cook at Christo's Restaurant for over 22 years and retired in 1989. He was a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Brockton and has been a Brockton resident since 1955.
He is survived by his nephews, Earle Worthley, Stanley Worthley, and John Mihos; his brother-in-law, Rev. Charles Mihos; his close friends, Dennis Apostolon and Albert Argrew. He was the brother of the late Chris Christopher, Nickolas Christopher, and Katharine Worthley.
Funeral Information
A funeral service will be held in the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 457 Oak St., Brockton on Wednesday at 11:00AM. The Rev. Anthony Evangelatos will officiate. Interment will follow in Melrose Cemetery, Brockton. Calling hours omitted.
