Thomas Altieri
, 73, of Whitman died Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at the Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital after a brief period of failing health with his loving son and wife at his side.
Born in Brockton on July 20, 1936, he was a son of the late Saverio and Essilia (Cappiello) Altieri. Raised and educated in Brockton, he graduated from Brockton High School in 1954. He later entered the United States Army and enjoyed his time in El Paso, Texas and Regensburg, Germany. Upon his exit from the military, he entered Bridgewater State College where he graduated in 1962.
Tom worked for the State of Massachusetts as a child support enforcement worker and later a Social Worker supervisor for the Massachusetts Department of Transitional Services for nearly 30 years. As a retiree for the past 12 years he was able to enjoy his passions: his family, golf and the Red Sox.
An avid golfer, Tom was a member DW Fields Golf Course for the past 40 years. Golfing every Saturday morning in the SMGA with his fellow golfers from the Bertocci Club where he was also a member. Tom took the game of golf to new levels. With a determination and love of practice, he turned his backyard into his own private golf sanctuary.
A devoted sports enthusiast, he enjoyed watching all sporting events with his son Thomas, especially the Boston Red Sox. Luckily they provided him with a few World Series Championships. He also enjoyed cooking and spending time with his family. For the past several years, Tom lovingly cared for his ailing mother-in-law Ann providing her with the special love and care that has allowed her to remain living at home.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Theresa "Terry" (DiNunno) Altieri; his devoted son, Thomas Michael Altieri; his mother-in-law, Ann (Carchidi) DiNunno whom he lovingly cared for; his sister Marie (Altieri) Guaraldi and her husband Edgar of Brockton; his brother, Michael Altieri and his wife Lorraine of Estero Beach, Florida and his youngest brother, Richard Altieri and his wife Sherrie of Bluffton, South Carolina. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral from the Russell Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt123) Brockton on Monday at 9:30AM thence to The Church of the Holy Ghost, 518 Washington St., Whitman where a funeral mass will be celebrated for the repose of his soul
at 11:00AM. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Brockton. Calling hours Sunday 2:00-6:00PM.
