Obituary

Thomas Deftos Thomas "Tom" Deftos, 83, of West Bridgewater, passed away Thursday, November 23, 2011 at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He was the husband of Marion (Hynes) Deftos. Born in Danbury, Connecticut he was the son of the late Fred M. Deftos and Kalianthe (Nanos) Deftos. Tom graduated from Brockton High School and Boston College. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. Tom was best known as the Proprietor of the Dairy Queen on North Main Street in Brockton and also known for being named the all American starting shortstop on the 1944 Brockton American Legion Baseball team that went to the National Finals. Tom was a longtime member of the Brockton Country Club and the Brockton YMCA. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marion (Hynes) Deftos of West Bridgewater; his three sons, Ronald Crisona of Brockton, Thomas J. Deftos of Brockton and Daniel F. Deftos of East Bridgewater; his beloved grandchildren, Amanda, Laci, Lyla and Luke; his brother, Dr. Leonard J. Deftos of CA. He was the brother of the late Minot Deftos. Funeral Information Calling hours in the Russell Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., Brockton on Tuesday, November 29th from 3:00-7:00PM. Funeral services and interment will be private.
