Thomas W. Tobin, Jr.

Thomas William Tobin, a beloved husband, father, brother and papa passed away peacefully on August 7, 2026 at the Brockton VA Medical Center with his wife by his side. Tom lived a life defined by courage, strength, and a deep devotion to his family.

Thomas W. Tobin, affectionately known as Big Tom to most and Papa to his girls, was born on June 14, 1950 in Ayer, Massachusetts. The son of the late Jeane (Girouard) and Capt. Thomas Tobin Sr., he grew up an “Army Brat” living in a number of places before putting down roots in Brockton, MA. In 1968 Tom graduated from Brockton High School and following in the military footsteps of his father, he joined the US Marines. Shortly after graduation, he shipped off to Parris Island and soon after, Vietnam. He proudly served with the 1st Marine Division, 3rd Battalion, Kilo Company Force Recon in Vietnam, receiving a Purple Heart.

Throughout his life Tom was a pillar of strength and a source of unwavering support for his family. Always there to lend a hand, listen and offer advice or just a much needed hug, he was our rock. He was the loving husband of Nora (Stack) Tobin and together they shared 43 years of cherished memories and boundless love. As a father he was the world to his children, instilling in them the value of integrity, hard work and most importantly, love.

In his free time, Tom most enjoyed sitting on the canal with the love of his life, spending time outdoors with his K9 companion, Jenny and working on projects around the house. He especially cherished his time with his family and loved spoiling his grandkids, always slipping them some money for ice cream.

Sadly missed by his beloved wife, Nora (Stack) Tobin, daughter Colleen Ranahan and husband Patrick of Plymouth, sons Robert Poliseno and wife Amanda of Duxbury, Thomas Tobin III of Rockland, daughter Katlyn Tobin-Walker and husband Michael of West Wareham, and his beloved grandchildren Sofia, Liliana & Billy. Brother to the late Michael Tobin and wife Joanne, and survived by sisters Donna Tobin and Laura (Tobin) Dowd and husband Rick as well as many nieces and nephews.

He is also fondly remembered by his extended family and circle of friends, all of whom were touched by his warmth and kindness.

A memorial service with military honors will be held Friday, October 2, 2026 at 10:15am at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. Family and friends are invited to attend as they gather to celebrate his life and honor his service.
