Online Obituaries Tom M. Johnson, 44, of Middleboro, died unexpectedly at home on Sunday, February 8, 2015. He was the husband of Jennifer (McGillis) Johnson. Born March 30, 1970 in Stoughton, he was the son of Aini Johnson-Yuskaitis and the late David Johnson Sr. Raised in Brockton, Tom was a 1988 graduate of Brockton High School, where he was a member of the National Honor Society and a captain of the Boxers football team. He was part of three Super Bowl champion teams, earned Enterprise All-Scholastic honors and was selected to participate in the Shriners All Star Football Team. He went on to play football at Colgate University on a scholarship and graduated in 1993 with a bachelor's degree in liberal arts. After college, Tom moved to New York City where he became an assistant specialist on the American Stock Exchange for Spear Leeds & Kellogg. In 1997, he received a coastal navigation certificate from Chelsea Sailing School on the Chelsea Piers in Manhattan. He worked for Spear Leeds until 1999 when he moved back to Boston and worked at Citi Street as a business analyst. After losing several friends in the World Trade Center attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, Tom joined the U.S. Marines. He went to boot camp at Parris Island, N.C. in November 2002 and served honorably, including tours in Iraq. He was discharged in 2006 and was awarded several commendations, including the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Medal of Good Conduct. After completing his service, he went to work as a systems engineer for Sabre Systems of Pennsylvania and was assigned to the Naval Academy Preparatory School in Newport, R.I., where he also served as a volunteer assistant football coach. In 2008, he received a master's of science communication technology from Strayers University in Woodbridge, Va. Tom was a gifted athlete and lifelong fitness enthusiast who loved skiing, golf, basketball and a variety of other athletic endeavors. But most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife Jennifer Johnson and stepson Derek of Middleboro; his mother Aini Johnson-Yuskaitis and stepfather Paul Yuskaitis of Hooksett, N.H.; his in-laws, John and Patricia McGillis of Brockton; two brothers, John and Melissa Johnson of Hudson, N.H., and David and Kim Johnson of Taunton; step siblings Sally Kopf of Strafford, N.H., Paul Yuskaitis Jr. of Epsom, N.H., Robert Yuskaitis of Braintree and Cathy Stowe of Bridgewater. Funeral Information Funeral services will be held in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., Brockton on Saturday, February 14th at 11:00AM. Interment will be held at a later date in the VA National Cemetery, Bourne. Calling hours in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home on Friday from 4:00-8:00PM.
