Celebration of a Life Well Lived

1929 – 2024

Ursula Inez Leacock was a remarkable woman whose life story began on Tuesday, February 26, 1929. Born in Hawkins Gap, Westbury Road, St. Michael, she was the cherished daughter of Cleveland Hinds and Winifred Leacock Hinds Butcher. At the tender age of four, Ursula moved from St. Michael to St. Lucy, where she was lovingly raised by her grandparents, William and Mamme, in the tranquil surroundings of Jordan St. Lucy.

Throughout her early life, Ursula developed a strong work ethic and a multitude of talents. Before embarking on a significant journey to the United States in 1984, she worked diligently as a housekeeper. Her keen attention to detail and commitment to excellence extended beyond her professional life into her personal hobbies.

Ursula possessed extraordinary skills as a seamstress, capable of replicating dress patterns with exceptional precision and completing them in a single day. This talent was complemented by her proficiency in crochet, knitting, and embroidery, reflecting her dexterity and creativity. Moreover, Ursula was an adept cook and baker, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere through her culinary talents.

Beyond her skills and hobbies, Ursula was known for her boundless devotion and genuine care for those around her. Her capacity for forgiveness, passion, and her desire to see others thrive left an indelible mark on everyone she encountered. Perhaps most endearing was her infectious laughter; a good joke could set her off in fits of uncontrollable, contagious laughter, spreading joy to all in her presence.

Ursula leaves behind a legacy of love and support through her family. She is survived by her only brother, Peter Butcher, and three of her four daughters: Esther Griffith, Lucene Leacock Wright, and Andrea Leacock. Her daughter Merlene Leacock precedes her in death. Ursula's legacy also continues through her three sons: Wayne Leacock, Seibert Leacock, and Lee Leacock, as well as her 10 grandchildren: Nicole Gibbons, Delvin Leacock, Victor Gibbons, Stacey Leacock, Tyrell Gibson Leacock, Tyrese Matthias Leacock, Aiyana Reid Leacock, Tamika Leacock, Wayne Leacock, Keyshawn Leacock.
