Varetta "Tressa" Bynum-Wardrop, 52, of Boston and North Carolina passed away on February 24 after falling ill.
Tressa grew up in Boston playing with her cousins, Andy, Brenda, Mary, and Tammy. Tressa passed the exam for Boston Latin School and she attended for one year before transferring to Lexington High. At Lexington High, she exceled in track and fencing. After graduation in 1987, she proceeded to work for several companies and was unable to make headway. In 1999, Tressa joined the U.S. Army and served our country for over 20 years and excelled in everything up until she retired in 2020. Tressa earned the rank of Master Sergeant (MSG). Tressa was a Combat War Veteran and a Bronze Star recipient. "She was a soldier's soldier."
Tressa leaves to mourn; her mother, Amanda Carvalho, her father, Connie Johnson, her two sons Laurence Bynum-Harris, Charlie Blevines III, daughter Chanelle Frenel, son-in law Roberto, brothers Eric Brown and Dirk Brown, sisters Andrea Johnson-Stewart and Ladonia Johnson, granddaughters Cydni, Robyn and Egypt, and her sister friend of 33 years Stephani Stokes. Tressa also leaves a host of Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, loyal friends, and Army family. We cannot forget to let it be known that Tressa loved her "road dogs" a.k.a. fur babies Stacio, Sam, Bella and Bun-Bun. We all loved her unconditionally and without question, frankly we could not help it, lol.
Tressa was an all-around amazing person. Tressa had a personality like no other. She always had a smile (and what a beautiful, dimpled smile she had) on her face. Anybody who met her fell in love instantly. She was kind, compassionate and truly an understanding individual whether you were a member of her family, a friend, or a stranger. Tressa was a giver and rarely ever a taker.
Tressa enjoyed all genres of music especially old school R & B and could surely cut a rug. Tressa was an avid movie lover and was always open to a follow-up discussion/debate. Tressa has had the pleasure to meet everyone from President Bush in Iraq at Thanksgiving to Big Daddy Kane at the airport. Like I said…amazing.

"The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him,
but because he loves what is behind him.
I am a Soldier, I fight where I am told, and I win where I fight.
The soldier, above all other people, prays for peace, for he must suffer and bear the deepest wounds and scars of war."
Hooah!
