Obituary

Virginia "Ifigenia" (Papanicolaou) Krikis of Brockton, MA passed away on Wednesday March 30, 2022. She was the beloved wife of the late Aristofanis Krikis who died after they had been happily married for 54 years. She was the cherished Mother of Maria Krikis and Ourania "Nina" Christina Krikis by whom she will be deeply missed. She was born September 4, 1934 in Aidonia, Greece. She was the daughter of the late Christos Papanicolaou, and Ourania (Papavrimidis) Papanicolaou. She was predeceased by her sister Garifalia "Litsa" Kotsiopoulos and her brother-in-law Alexander Kotsiopoulos. Virginia immigrated to the United States in January 1951 with her family and was naturalized shortly thereafter. She returned to Greece in 1960 and met and married her husband Aristofanis, after which they returned to the United States and started their family. After many years raising her daughters, she returned to work. She worked as a seamstress in the garment industry until she retired. She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend to those she loved. She loved deeply and unconditionally and was deeply loved. She was also a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church where she participated in many ways including baking for and working at the annual food festival. She was an excellent cook and baker, though always modest about her skills and delicious results. She excelled at traditional Greek foods and desserts but was just as likely to try a new recipe. She enjoyed cooking for her family and other loved ones and will be remembered for the beautiful and generous spreads of food she always laid out for company and family alike. For many years she traveled back to Greece with her husband annually to be among family and friends. She maintained a home in Greece where family and friends were always welcome and treated to her generous hospitality. Virginia and Aristofanis also traveled to many other destinations outside Greece. One of the highlights of her travels was a month-long road trip through several European countries with her husband and daughters. She particularly enjoyed stops in the Alps, St. Moritz and Venice. Among their other travels, they often traveled for milestone wedding anniversaries including a trip back to their honeymoon destination in Rhodes, Greece for their 40th Anniversary. Virginia is survived by her daughters Maria Krikis and Ourania "Nina" Christina Krikis; her nephew Kostandinos "Charles" Kotsiopoulos and his wife Dorian; her great-nephew Nicholas Kotsiopoulos; and her great-niece Alyssa Kotsiopoulos. She is survived by several cousins and caring friends in the United States. She is also survived by loved ones in Greece including nephews, nieces, grand-nephews, grand-nieces, cousins and dear friends. She will be particularly missed by her nephew and godson Ioannis Krikis, his wife Despina, and their children Ifigenia, Mixalis, and Filiana Krikis who always welcomed her with open loving arms during her visits to Greece.
