Obituary

Virginia M. (Papineau) Gegg, age 89, of Pleasantville, CA, formerly of Brockton, died December 28, 2018. Virginia was the wife for 56 years of the late Dr. William Gegg. Born and raised in Brockton, the daughter of the late Albert E. and Virginia (Sexton) Papineau, Virginia graduated from Brockton High School in 1948, then from Newton-Wellesley School of Nursing and John Hopkins Hospital School of Operating Room Techniques. She worked as a nurse in the Operating Room at the Brockton Hospital and Franklin Hospital in San Francisco. In the 1950’s, Virginia worked for Kaiser-Bechtel Company as a nurse in East and West Pakistan, where she met her future husband; they married in 1962. As Dr. Gegg continued to work for Kaiser-Bechtel, they resided in Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Norway, and eventually returned to the United States. For many years Virginia lived in Tucson, AZ, but spent her last years in California.

Virginia is survived by her step-children William Gegg, Jr. and his wife Sharon, Caroline and Margot Gegg; four step grandchildren and one step great-grandchild all of California. She was the sister of Marshall Papineau and his wife Christine of Brockton, John Papineau and his wife Maureen of North Easton and the late Paul Papineau. She also leaves numerous relatives in the Brockton area.

A Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 4:30pm at the Immaculate Conception Church, 193 Main Street, North Easton, MA.
