IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Virginia Alice
(Penha) Dacosta
June 22, 1939 – April 27, 2023
Virginia Alice (Penha) DaCosta, 83, passed away Thursday, April 27, 2023 at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. She was the loving wife of Autilio J. DaCosta. Daughter of the late Arthur H.G. Penha and Julia Alice Penha, she was born in New Bedford, June 22, 1939. Virginia is survived by her three daughters, Carol Stahl, Linda Santos and Lori Veiga and their respective husbands Richard Stahl and Jose Veiga. She took great delight and pride in her surviving grandchildren Aaron and Katherine (Lawrence) Stahl, Rebekah and Connor Stahl-Bryant, Jonathan Stahl, Nathanael Stahl, Samuel Stahl; Tayla Santos, Bryanna Santos, Zachary Santos; Josef Veiga, Hannah Veiga and Christian Veiga. Virginia is survived by one sister, Matilda Casler and her husband James Casler.
She married into a large family and loved the companionship of her sisters and brothers-in-law. Many are the cousins, nieces and nephews to whom her influence reached.
Virginia, who was fondly known as Gina by all who knew her, spent her childhood in Onset and adult life in Brockton.
Gina was a graduate of Eastern Nazarene College where she earned both a bachelors and masters degree. She taught elementary education and music for many years and transitioned to bilingual education after earning another masters degree from Boston University. In the 1990s she became an Assistant Principal in the Brockton Public Schools until her retirement in 2001. A lifelong learner herself, Gina always welcomed the opportunity to master a new skill, even picking up the harp at age 70.
What she might be best remembered for is her love of the piano. On Sunday mornings, you could count on Gina to be sitting at the piano at the Brockton First Church of the Nazarene. The church was the epicenter of much of Gina's life; she led Sunday School, participated in choir, and created a successful ESL education program which she passionately led for several years.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 3rd at 11:00AM in the First Church of the Nazarene, 89 No. Pearl St., Brockton, MA 02301. Interment will follow in Melrose Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, May 2nd from 4;00PM to 8:00PM in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., Brockton, MA.
At the request of the family, flowers may be ordered at Stapleton Floral at stapletonfloral.com
