Eklund
May 20, 1929 – July 14, 2025
Warren Ernest Eklund, 96, formerly of Brockton Ma, passed away on Monday July 14, 2025 surrounded by loving family.
Warren was born May 20, 1929 in Brockton Ma, a son of Roy and A Virginia (Rosequist) Eklund.
Warren graduated from Brockton High School in 1948 and lived most of his life in Brockton, and summering in Onset.
Warren joined the United States Navy in 1950, and served aboard the USS Johnston until honorably discharged in 1954. While in the United States Navy, he was awarded the Navy Occupation Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
One of his favorite memories was from 1949 when he raced in the Albany to New York Marathon Boat Race finishing 9th place in his class of 78 boats. In his later years, he loved sitting on the porch and watching the boats go by in the Cape Cod Canal and greeting neighbors in his beloved Cleveland Ave neighborhood.
Warren worked at Stetson Shoe, Earth Shoe and Hanson Printing. He especially loved flying on Friday mornings with his friends, "The Chowhounds". Warren was a well know custom ship model builder and frequently traveled to display his extensive collection. He enjoyed boating, especially sailing and spent many summers sailing to the coast of Maine.
Warren was a member of Trinity Baptist Church where he served for numerous years.
Warren is survived by his son Scott Eklund and his wife Joanne, his daughters Rhonda DeCicco and Heidi Eklund and her spouse Wayne Pyle. He will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Christopher Eklund and his wife Bonnie, Markie DeCicco, and Willoughby Pyle as well as his Great-Granddaughter Brynn Eklund. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding Warren in death is his former spouse, Sunya Smith Eklund Howard, his parents, Roy and A Virginia Eklund and his twin brother Wayne Eklund.
Warren's family would like to thank the staff of Unit 1 at Royal of Cape Cod for the loving care they provided.
Visitation will be held Sunday, July 20th from 2:00PM-5:00PM in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 441 South Main St (Rt28) West Bridgewater. Funeral Service in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home on Monday, July 21st at 11:30.
Interment to follow at 1:30 PM at the Massachusetts National Cemetery Connery Ave,Bourne Ma 02532.
