Obituary

Wilhelmina "Mena" Mathis, beloved mother whose life spanned nearly a century passed away peacefully in her Brockton, MA. home on June 28, 2025.

She was born in Jacksonville, Florida to the proud parents of the late Willie M. Leroy and the late Leroy Bradley. During her formative years Wilhelmina also loving known as "Sister" was a fierce protector of her brothers and sisters of whom she loved dearly. Later she became the beloved wife of the late Robert L. Mathis and together they started their family in Boston, MA. Through teamwork they successfully raised 9 children. Mom will be genially remembered for her excellent cooking skills and her exceptional generosity towards family and neighbors. It's warmly noted by childhood friends that Mom taught them many valuable lessons including respect for themselves, people's property and never using "foul" language in our yard which was always filled with good food, activities and fun.

Wilhelmina is survived by her children, Veronica L. Jackson, the late Robert L. Mathis Jr., William C. Mathis, Kenneth L. Mathis, Lawrence R. Mathis, Debra A. Mathis, Renee R. Francis, Mark J. Mathis, the late Nikkole L. Mathis. Her siblings, the late Bernice Lewis, the late Robert Royal, Charles Leroy, the late Juanita Ferguson, Theresa West, Ethel Austin, Mildred Moore, the late Thomas Leroy, Alfonso Leroy, Ollie Ruth Shaw, the late Bernard Leroy and baby sister Jeannette Henderson.
