William J. Donlan, 80, of Harwich, passed away Thursday, November 19, 2015 at the Pleasant Bay Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Brewster.
Born February 15, 1935 in Mansfield MA, son of the late A. Stanley Donlan and Myrtle (Morse) Donlan. Bill spent his childhood in Mansfield. He lived in Brockton and West Bridgewater for many years before retiring to Harwich.
Bill proudly served his country as a radio operator in the Philippines during the Korean conflict, where he took time to teach the local children to read. Afterward he graduated from Bridgewater State College in 1961 and taught in the Dighton School system. He later took over his fathers commercial painting business until his retirement.
Bill was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be remembered for his avid storytelling, and his love of nature and animals. He took great satisfaction in feeding the wildlife in his backyard every morning. During his life he was accompanied by one of his faithful dogs Donnie, Babe, and Artie.
He was predeceased by his wife Nancy J. (Carvalho) Donlan in 2006; sisters A. Betty Reid, and M. Pricilla Browning who passed on November 15, 2015. He is survived by his children, James Donlan, and his wife Debra of West Bridgewater; Mark Donlan, and his wife Cloe of Harwich; grandchildren Jack, Jayna, Cole, and Kyler; his sister Barbara Hughes of Florida; and his brother Thomas.
Funeral Information
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 28th at 11:00AM in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Melrose Cemetery, Brockton. Memorial visitation will be prior to the service from 10:00AM to 11:00AM.
