William F.
Bassett
January 1, 1919 – July 13, 2025
William F. Bassett of Middleboro, MA passed peacefully at home on July 13th. Son of William and Elizabeth Bassett, he was born and raised in Providence, RI. He was 90 years old and the oldest of 7 boys. William graduated from La Salle High School in 1954 and received a Bachelor of Science in accounting from Bryant College in 1957. He received a Master of Business Administration from Bryant College in 1978 and a Master of Science in Taxation in 1986 from Bryant College. William retired from Tech Industries in Woonsocket, MA as controller. William was the beloved husband of 64 years to his love of his life, Doris. Devoted father of Linda Bassett Shaftoe, MD and husband Thomas of Nashville, NC and daughter Cheryl Stringer and husband Kenneth of Littleton, NH and son Steven Bassett and partner Richard Guptill of Roslindale, MA. William leaves his granddaughter, Alyssa, which held a special place in his heart, plus many nieces and nephews. William was brother of Joseph, George, Kenneth, and late John, Alfred and Robert Bassett.
William enjoyed playing cribbage with his brothers growing up and his neighbors later in life. He enjoyed tennis, bowling, fishing and had many fish stories. He enjoyed gardening and grew many vegetables in his garden. His favorite was yellow tomatoes. He was a problem solver and handy man around the house. He enjoyed vacationing in Florida and going on cruises. At age 64 he challenged and conquered the white-water rapids of the Colorado River rafting through the Grand Canyon of Arizona with his daughter, Cheryl and son-in-law, Ken. Bill and Doris regularly took the whole family on many travel adventures. They also often visited their children in North Carolina, Arizona and Texas.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 26th from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM in the Russell and Pica Funeral Home, 17 Main Street Route 105, Lakeville, Massachusetts with a eulogy at 2:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Bill's name to St. Vincent de Paul Middleboro food pantry or your choice of charitable organizations.
