Online Obituaries William R. Fitts, of St. Petersberg, Fl, passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2012 in Brockton after a courageous, two-year battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 76 years old. Born May 3, 1935 in Brockton, he was the son of the late Welcome W. Fitts and Marie (George) Fitts. Mr. Fitts lived most of his life in Brockton. He graduated from Brockton High School in 1953 where he played football and baseball. He was a member of the U.S. Naval Reserve for 7 years. He worked as a journeyman carpenter for 31 years and was employed by the City of Brockton as a city Building Inspector for nearly 10 years. For the past 18 years, he resided in St. Petersburg, Florida, where he was an avid golfer. Mr. Fitts was father of Cheryl Sholes, William Fitts, Jr., Kevin Fitts and the late Brian Fitts; grandfather of Benjamin Sholes, Adam Sholes, Emily Fitts Baker and Keith Fitts; brother of John R. Fitts, Richard D. Fitts, Michael J. Fitts, June Stetson, Barbara Dufault, Sandra Francolini, Diane McLaughlin, Linda Metune and Kathleen Fitts; he is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was brother of the late Robert K. Fitts, Fred C. Fitts and Welcome W. Fitts, Jr. Funeral Information Funeral services will be held in the Russell Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt123) Brockton on Saturday, March 31st at 10:00AM.
