Obituary

William D. Grant, 74, of West Bridgewater, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2024, at home with his family by his side. He was the husband of the late Linda S. (McDermott) Grant.

Born in Boston on May 25, 1949, and raised in Hyde Park, he was the son of the late William Grant and Aileen M. (Wager) Grant. He was a 1967 graduate of Brighton High School. In 1969, he married Linda, the love of his life, and they settled in Brockton to raise their family. As empty nesters, the two volunteered together at the West Bridgewater Food Pantry.

Bill was the proud owner and operator of Grant's Auto Repair in Hyde Park. After 30 years, he sold his business and began working for Brockton Area Transit (BAT) as a diesel mechanic, retiring in 2013. For five years after "retirement" he continued to work part-time delivering auto parts for two different companies. He loved to work and later when he couldn't, he missed it.

Bill loved watching and cheering on his grandkids at their school and sporting events. He also enjoyed watching the Patriots and Red Sox while sipping a cold beer and playing Cribbage. He often took daytrips to Nantasket and Cape Cod beaches, dining at local eateries, and spending time with his beloved family. Anyone who knew Bill loved him and considered themselves lucky for it. He was kind, generous, smart, gentle, honest, and humble. Bill was warm and loving, didn't complain, and was full of integrity. He made the best of things, especially his non-dialysis days. He left a lasting impression on everyone he met. "There has to be a Heaven for someone as good as him to go."

In addition to his late wife, Bill is survived by his daughters Christine (Grant) Bukunt and her husband Doug of Middleboro and Julie Grant of Scituate, RI; his grandchildren Meghan Wrightington, and Dan and Mandi Bukunt; his sisters Kathy Grant Petrelli, Aileen Grant and her life partner Matt Whalen, and Dottie Grant Cohen; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his companion, Dotty McCarthy of Brockton.
