Obituary

WILLIAM P. MARONEY, SR. WEST BRIDGEWATER, WWII NAVY VETERAN, 93, passed away at home of natural causes on Wednesday, May 27, 2020, under the care of his family and hospice. Born July 2, 1926, in Boston, MA. He was the son of the late Timothy J. Maroney and Annie (Connolly) Maroney. William worked for Coca Cola, Co., as a machine mechanic before he retired. William was very proud to be a WWII Veteran and of his service in the U.S. Navy on board the U.S.S. Pasadena. His favorite thing in life was spending time with his family. He was the life of the party at family gatherings. He loved singing and dancing and encouraging other family members to join in. He spent a lot of his days handicapping horse races, golfing, and fixing things. William was a jack of all trades and could fix anything put in front of him. He was a hard worker and loved puttering around his house. He loved his daily cup of coffee and really enjoyed his scotch. He is predeceased by his loving wife of 67 years, Marie (McCarthy) Maroney and his siblings, Mary Ladd, Timothy Maroney, Thomas Maroney and Anna "Josie" Dwelley. William is survived by his loving children, William P. Maroney, Jr. and his wife Sheri of Whitman, Deborah A. Maguire and her companion Roland DeSimone of North Easton, Gregory M. Maroney and his wife Sherry of Lakeville, and Paul F. Maroney of Providence, RI; his grandchildren, Emmett Maguire and his wife Sadie, Rory Maguire and his wife Rachel, Brandon Maroney and his wife Corey, William Maroney and his wife Melissa, Taylor Maroney, Shawna Gonthier and her husband Michael, and Shelley Maroney; his great-grandchildren, Ryan and Sophia Maroney and Lyla and Leo Gonthier; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial gathering will be held on Thursday, July 2nd from 10:30 AM-12:30 PM in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 441 S. Main St. (Rt.28), West Bridgewater. Interment to follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association, P. O. All visitors when returning to their cars will please exit the property to allow others to enter. All visitors will be able to greet family members from a safe distance but not able to touch.
