Obituary

William D. Pope, 81, of West Bridgewater, died peacefully on Tuesday,

January 9, 2024, surrounded by his loving family at the Dr. Ruth McLain

Hospice Home in Braintree. He was the beloved husband of Judith A.

(Lanoue) Pope for 53 years.

Born on August 9, 1942 in Brockton, he was the son of Dr. David W.

Pope and Helen C. (Doyle) Pope. He was raised in Brockton and

graduated from Cheshire Academy in Cheshire, Connecticut. He

attended Suffolk University in Boston.

William was the Director of Building Facilities at the Lutheran Home in

Brockton for several years and was also co-owner of the Home Café in

Brockton. In the late 1960s, he owned Bill's Place in Rockland.

In his younger years, William earned his pilot's license and enjoyed

flying from the Mansfield and New Bedford airports. He also enjoyed

boating during summers spent in Humarock which led to many

adventures later on on Swan Lake in Maine aboard their boat "The Loon

Ranger."

William served on the Finance Committee for the town of West

Bridgewater and was also named Chairman during his time there. He

was an avid reader, especially of World War II history. William and his

wife Judith enjoyed traveling, especially to St. Lucia, Cozumel,

Dominican Republic, and Prince Edward Island.

He was also an active participant in his children's activities. He coached

softball for his daughter Jennifer's WBYAA team and led them to an

undefeated season. William loved helping his son Tim train and compete

at the Court Brothers boxing gym in Campello, always cheering loudly

in his corner.

But most of all, he cherished spending time at the lake up in Maine with

his family at their cottage in Swanville.

William leaves his wife, Judith and was the loving father of Jennifer S.

(Pope) Frawley and her husband Donald and Timothy D. Pope and his

wife Jamie (Anderson) Pope. He was also the proud grandfather of

Ryan, Emma, Olivia, and Jack.

William was predeceased by siblings Barbara Ball of Plymouth, Dorothy

Burke of Westfield, David Pope, Jr. of East Bridgewater, and Cornelia

Kuliesh of Brockton. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

William also leaves lifelong friends Joseph and Mary Ann Yezukevich
