William F. Tyrrell, 96, of West Bridgewater, passed away on Friday, November 22, 2019. He was the husband of Blanche M. (Barron) Tyrrell for 73 years.
Born in Brockton on October 18, 1923, he was the son of the late William T. Tyrrell and Mary J. (Kenney) Tyrrell. After graduating from Brockton High School in 1941, Bill went on to graduate from Massachusetts Maritime Academy and was a commissioned Lieutenant in the United States Navy where he served aboard the USS Mazama (AE-9) until 1946.
Bill worked for New England Telephone, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the Telephone Company Pioneers, Holy Name Society of St. Ann's, the Scituate Beach Association, and his local Bocci Club in Florida. Bill wintered in Pembroke Park, Florida until three years ago, and summered in his family home in Scituate all his life.
In addition to his wife, Blanche; Bill is survived by his children, William F. Tyrrell and his wife Donna of Carver, Thomas E. Tyrrell of West Bridgewater, Mary Nelson of Bridgewater and Paul M. Tyrrell and his wife Lisa of Marshfield; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; his siblings, Charles (Chick) Tyrrell of Syracuse, Barbara Nugent of Mashpee and Marion O'Brien of East Bridgewater; and many nieces and nephews. Bill was also the brother of the late Marjorie Burke and father-in-law of the late David Nelson.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated for the repose of his soul on Tuesday, November 26th at 10:00AM in St. Ann Church, 103 N. Main St., West Bridgewater. Interment with military honors will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery, West Bridgewater. Calling hours are omitted. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
