Yavon Dorothy (Gidney) Shuford
Dorothy G. Shuford (Dottie, Sootie) exchanged time for eternity Sunday, September 9, 2012 at 5:25 am, at Brockton Hospital, Brockton, MA. Born Yavon Dorothy Gidney in Cleveland County, NC on June 14, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Vivian Brooks whom she loved so very dearly!
Dorothy attended public school in Cleveland County and attended Ridgeview High School (Hickory,NC)
Shortly afterward she united in marraige to George F. Shuford. No Children born to this union. As much as she loved people, she privately enjoyed her solitude, she was generous, warm and had a magnetic personality, like an ancient oak tree that has shaded the family from the heat of summer, her outreach to others shielded many from the full weight of life's misfortunes, her doors were open to many. She touched the lives of those she cared for.
Relocating to Massachusetts she worked for many years at Davis Clothing Co., as a presser until retiring.
She became an active member of New Life A.M.E. Zion Church under Rev. William Barnett, hers was a life of service, she was faithfully dedicated, serving in several capacities; as a Deaconess, life member of WHOM Society, member of Lay Council receiving Lay Council Award several years ago, Sister Circle, totally dedicated to Bible Study.
Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory; a beloved brother, Charles Williams of Boston, MA, cousins, Rev. Myrtle Hawkins, Valdese, NC, Joseph Smith, Sidney Smith, Patricia Smith, all of NJ; goddaughter Margaret Minnified of Chicago, IL; longtime friend Jo-Ann Giles, a host of other beloved relatives, special friends, and several non-adopted children.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday October 27, 2012 at 4:00pm in the Russell Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St.,(Rt. 123) Brockton, MA 02301
