Zelinda Santos Mendes Zelinda Santos Mendes , 97, of Brockton, died Friday November 14, 2008 at Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital after a short illness. She was the wife of the late Manuel Mendes. Born September 11, 1911 in Brava, Cape Verde, she was the daughter of the late Furtanato Santos and Havana Messina. She was a resident of Brockton for 33 years. Zelinda was devoted to her family and loved to dance. She is survived by her children, Alberto Mendes of Brockton, Arnold Mendes of California, John Mendes of Brockton, Idial Mendes of Bridgewater, Daniel Mendes of East Bridgewater, Havana Depina of Boston, Dulcilia Graham of Brockton, and Maria Depina of Brockton; her sisters, Angela Fernandes of Brockton and Benvinda DePina of Cape Verde. She is also survived by 31 Grandchildren , 49 Great Grandchildren, 9 Great-Great Grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Information Funeral from the Russell Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt123) Brockton on Tuesday, November 18th at 9:00AM followed by a funeral mass in St. Edith Stein/St. Edward Parish, 71 East Main St., Brockton, at 10:00AM.
